Once you’ve landed in Pula Airport, you’ll catch a transfer over to your hotel in the town of Medulin. Free time in the afternoon and evening.

Stay: Park Plaze Belverdere (or similar) | Meals: Dinner

Today, you’ll get to know some of the towns and villages around Medulin, including Rovinj – a picturesque fishing port – and Livade, where you’ll head into a forest to look for truffles.

  • Wander around the city of Pula. It’s home to an ancient colosseum that looks like smaller version of the one in Rome.
  • Stroll through the maze of cobbled streets in the city centre of Rovinj. It’s filled with 17th-century Baroque houses and churches.
  • Tuck in to a traditional lunch of pasta, locally grown asparagus and Croatian wine during a stop in the village of Grzini.
  • Go hunting for truffles in the Motovun Forest, outside the village of Livade. An expert will take you to the best spots to find these luxury foodie items.

Free time in Rovinj

Today, you’ll take a trip to the Plitvice Lakes. There are 16 in total, and they’re nestled into a UNESCO-protected national park of woods, waterfalls and criss-crossing bridges. Just so you know, it takes around 3 hours to get to the lakes.

  • Snap some photos of a 250-foot-tall waterfall during a hike around the lower lakes.
  • Sit down for a meal in a restaurant in the village of Rastoke. The area’s famous for a special type of bread that’s made with corn, barley and wheat.
  • Sail across Lake Kozjak. It’s the biggest one in the national park, and you’ll whizz around the water in a quiet electric boat.

Free day in Medulin. Today’s set aside so that you can rest up after your day at the Plitvice Lakes.

You’ll head to one of Slovenia biggest and most popular lakes today – Lake Bled. It’s home to the only island in the country, where you’ll find a 17th-century Baroque church. Just so you know, it’s a three hour round trip with the occasional rest stop.

  • Take in the Instagram-worthy natural scenery. The whole lake’s surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains and thick forests.
  • Explore Bled Castle – one of the oldest fortresses in Slovenia. It sits on top of 130-metre-tall cliffs that look out over the lake, so the view here’s something else.
  • Hop in a rowing boat for a visit to the church in the middle of the lake. It’s believed that if you make a wish while the bell rings, it’ll come true.
