Arrive in Madeira and take a short transfer to your hotel in Camara de Lobos. Get to know
your guide over a drink in the evening.

Stay: 4-star Hotel Quinta da Serra (or similar)

Today includes a sightseeing tour along the west and north coastlines of the island. You’ll visit a winery and the volcanic pools of Porto Moniz.

  • Admire the views from Cabo Girao, the second highest sea cliff in the world. Then drive through cabbage-green valleys towards the mountain pass of Encumeada.
  • Visit the house of a local wine producer and learn how Madeiran vinos are produced. Then sit down to lunch with the wine producer and his family.
  • Stop at the village of Porto Moniz, famed for its volcanic rock swimming pools. You’ll have time to cool off in the water, so don’t forget your swimmers.

Today, you’ll get a closer look at the natural beauty of Camara de Lobos, then get to try a
traditional Madeiran alcoholic drink.

  • Stop at a local bar and try the national alcoholic drink of Madeira, called Poncha. Its ingredients include honey, sugar and lemon juice.

Today, you’ll hike along some of Madeira’s levadas – water systems – out in the countryside.
Then you’ll head to Funchal in the evening.

  • Explore more of the cliff-hugging village of Camara de Lobos, and see where Winston Churchill was often inspired to paint.

Today includes visits to the island’s highest peaks, some of its oldest religious houses, and
its first ever town.

  • Make a stop at Pico do Arieiro, one of the highest peaks on the island. It has photo-ready panoramas – most days you’ll be above the clouds.
  • Snap photos of the steeply sloping thatched roofs of the red and white houses in Santana.
  • Visit Machico, the first place in Madeira that was ever discovered by explorers.

Food and drink are big hitters on today’s agenda, which includes a visit to a farmers’ market
and a bread making demonstration in Funchal.

  • Visit the farmers’ market and watch how bolo de caco, Madeira’s traditional bread, is made. You’ll have the chance to help knead the dough, too.
  • Taste some world-famous Madeiran wine in the oldest wine cellar in town – the Old Blandy Wine Lodges.
